The Law of Requisite Variety is a presupposition of NLP. It states that the system/person with the most flexibility of behaviour will control the system. It is also the first Law of Cybernetics. The individual with the highest amount of flexibility of behaviour will have the most influence on the system. That basically means that the more choices you have, the more freedom you will feel, better decisions you will make, and better outcomes you will achieve.
So what would it mean to be part of a team that is “behaviourally flexible?” One thing for sure, it would be very exciting and mentally energizing !!
It would mean having team members who are creative and innovative in their thinking and hence, capable of adapting their behaviour to the environment and situations they operate in and thus, never getting bogged down. One of the defining characteristics of such team is their “ selflessness” - doing whatever it takes to achieve the mission.
One is reminded of the film “Chak De” where the coach transforms the motley group of rigid players, stuck in their own individual worlds, to a highly flexible team of motivated members. The coach who also plays the role of a leader, works hard on breaking the egoistic and self – centred behaviour of most members and moulds them into a behaviourally flexible, winning team.
Among the corporate training companies in India, Great Gurugram Outdoors specialises in incorporating aspects of behavioural flexibility in Team outings , team building activities, and camping in Gurgaon.
